About

In the last decade, ASEAN has transformed and experienced significant development. Various achievements in integrating the region economically, politically, socially and culturally have received global appreciation. However, ASEAN’s efforts to build solidarity between countries in the region have also faced various challenges, both internally and externally. Responding to these dynamics, Hasanuddin University took the initiative to establish the Center for ASEAN Studies at Hasanuddin University (PSA-Unhas) as a forum for epistemic communities that care about issues related to the dynamics of regional organizations in the Southeast Asia Region. PSA-Unhas focuses on studying various problems in accordance with the ASEAN Pillar classification, namely the ASEAN Political and Security Community, the ASEAN Economic Community, and the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.

Focus on studying

1. ASEAN Political and Security Community

The themes in this section are ASEAN political and security challenges such as Counterterrorism and Transnational Crime, Food Security, Human Rights, Environment, South China Sea Disputes and Natural Disaster Management.

2. ASEAN Economic Community

The theme studied in this section is the opportunities and challenges of accelerating regional economic integration. Related problems are the challenges of facing the Global Economic Crisis, Commodity Value Chains in the Region, reducing poverty and inequality, the labor market and the readiness of local governments to face the AEC.

3. ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community

The theme of this section is ASEAN's efforts to realize connectivity between people as the highest achievement of regional integration. The problems studied include the challenges of educational and cultural cooperation as well as the role and importance of the younger generation in achieving the agenda of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community.
