Collaboration between the Department of International Relations and the International Office (IO) UNHAS Presents World-Class Research Methodology Experts

On September 13, 2024, Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) through a collaboration between the International Office (IO) and the Department of International Relations has successfully held a public lecture entitled “How To Find The Best Research Methods for Your Research Proposal”. This activity was held at the Prof. A. Amiruddin Auditorium at the Faculty of Medicine and presented Dr. G.A. (Gerben) Moerman as the main speaker, who is a researcher from the University of Amsterdam. This lecture was guided by one of the IO UNHAS staff, Khaeruddin, S.Pd., M.Hum., Ph.D.

This lecture took place starting at 09.00 WITA and was attended by UNHAS academics who had a deep interest in the development of research methodology. With the high enthusiasm of the participants, this event succeeded in providing a comprehensive understanding of various effective research approaches and techniques, making it a valuable opportunity for students and researchers in compiling quality research proposals.

This activity lasted for about two hours where Dr. Moerman explained various important aspects in choosing the right research method. He emphasized the importance of matching research methods to research questions and study objectives. Lecture participants gained in-depth insights into the strengths and limitations of various research methods, from quantitative to qualitative approaches, as well as mixed methods.

Dr. Moerman also shared practical tips on identifying and overcoming methodological challenges often faced by novice researchers. In addition, an interactive Q&A session provided an opportunity for participants to clarify aspects that were still confusing and get direct advice from experts for their research proposals. This activity not only enriched participants’ knowledge but also encouraged international research collaboration and improved the quality of academic output at Hasanuddin University.

Overall, this public lecture provided important insights on how to get a good research method for a research proposal that will be studied by the participants of this public lecture. The tips given by Dr. Moerman are also very useful for novice researchers to apply. The conducive atmosphere created by Dr. Moerman through the delivery of in-depth lecture materials encouraged the enthusiasm of the participants, thus motivating them to provide responses in the form of relevant questions.
