General Lecture : How to find the best research methods for your research proposal

On Tuesday, September 17th, 2024, the Department of Medical Education (DPK) and the Master’s Program in Medical and Health Professions Education (S2 IPKK) at the Faculty of Medicine, Hasanuddin University (FK UNHAS), organized a guest lecture titled “Data Analysis for Qualitative and Mixed-method Research” held in the Faculty Senate Room. The event featured Dr. G.A. (Gerben) Moerman, a Senior Lecturer in Social Research Methodology from the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, University of Amsterdam.

This hybrid event was attended by faculty members from FK UNHAS and students from the S2 IPKK program. The lecture was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Publication, Community Service, and International Affairs, Dr. Rina Masadah, M.Phil, DFM, Sp.PA(K). In her opening remarks, Dr. Rina expressed deep appreciation for Dr. Moerman’s presence and contribution, highlighting the importance of the knowledge and experience shared on qualitative and mixed-method research. She emphasized that these insights would be invaluable in developing research methodologies at FK UNHAS, particularly in the context of medical education.

The session was moderated by Dr. Muhammad Irfan Kamaruddin, M.Kes, Sp.M, MHPE, FIACLE. Dr. Moerman delivered an in-depth presentation on qualitative data analysis and mixed-method research, explaining how combining both methods can integrate quantitative and qualitative data in a study. He also discussed various data collection techniques, such as surveys and interviews, that support this type of research. The event aimed to provide participants with new insights into research techniques and data analysis, while expanding the academic community’s understanding of research methodologies within FK UNHAS.
