Makassar, September 2, 2026 — How does Japan contribute to peace and peacebuilding amid a changing global landscape? This question was among the key focuses of a Guest Lecture entitled “Peace, Peacebuilding, and Japan’s Cooperation in Peacebuilding,” organized by the Department of International Relations, Hasanuddin University, in collaboration with the Center for Peace, Conflict and Democracy (CPCD), Hasanuddin University.

Held on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, the Guest Lecture was conducted in a hybrid format at the Prof. Syukur Abdullah Hall, 3rd Floor of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Hasanuddin University, and via Zoom. The event featured Ako Muto, Specially Appointed Professor of the Master of Social Development and Administration Course, Graduate School of Social Design Studies, Rikkyo University, as the guest speaker.
The event was specifically intended for International Relations students, particularly those taking The Political System and Foreign Policy of Japan course. Through the theme discussed, students were provided with an opportunity to explore the relationship between Japan’s foreign policy, international cooperation, and Japan’s contribution to peacebuilding.
The discussion of Japan is relevant to the study of International Relations, as a country’s role in building peace can be examined through various forms of international cooperation and engagement. This perspective provides students with an opportunity to understand peace-related issues not only from the perspective of conflict, but also through the processes and cooperation that support peacebuilding efforts.
The participation of an academic from Rikkyo University further enriched the space for knowledge exchange between Indonesia and Japan. Students had the opportunity to gain academic perspectives related to peace and peacebuilding, while also developing an understanding of Japan’s cooperation in addressing these issues.
Through this Guest Lecture, the Department of International Relations and CPCD, Hasanuddin University, continue to provide an academic space for discussing issues of peace, conflict, and international cooperation from diverse perspectives.
