
Makassar, 5 August 2025 — Universitas Hasanuddin officially inaugurated Prof. Seniwati, S.Sos., M.Hum., Ph.D. as a Professor in the field of Counterterrorism Strategy in Southeast Asia at the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences. The inauguration ceremony was held solemnly at the Senate Room of the Rectorate Building, Universitas Hasanuddin, and attended by university leaders, members of the academic senate, faculty members, and invited guests.
During the ceremony, Prof. Seniwati delivered an academic oration titled “Strategies for Addressing Terrorism in Southeast Asia through International Cooperation.” In the oration, the newly inaugurated professor emphasized the growing importance of international cooperation in addressing terrorism threats across the Southeast Asian region. According to Prof. Seniwati, the evolving nature of terrorism requires stronger collaboration among countries, including intelligence sharing, coordinated policies, and institutional partnerships.
Prof. Seniwati also highlighted Indonesia’s strategic role in promoting regional stability through various multilateral platforms. Through regional cooperation frameworks such as ASEAN, Indonesia continues to contribute to collective efforts in addressing non-traditional security challenges, including terrorism.
With this inauguration, Prof. Seniwati officially joins the Universitas Hasanuddin Council of Professors as member number 597. The appointment reflects recognition of Prof. Seniwati’s academic contributions to the development of international relations studies, particularly in the areas of regional security and counterterrorism strategies.
Born in Makassar on 2 February 1976, Prof. Seniwati is an alumna of the International Relations program at Universitas Hasanuddin, where she completed her undergraduate studies in 1998. She later earned a master’s degree in American Studies from Universitas Gadjah Mada in 2001 and obtained her doctoral degree in International Studies from Universiti Utara Malaysia in 2014.
Currently, Prof. Seniwati also serves as the Head of the Department of International Relations at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Hasanuddin. The inauguration is expected to further strengthen the department’s academic contribution to regional security studies and the broader field of international relations.
