“Reflection session for International Relations’ Adjunct Professor Program 2024″

Makassar, 18 September 2024 – Dr. G.A. (Gerben) Moerman from the University of Amsterdam closed the first adjunct professor program at the Department of International Relations, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Hasanuddin by conducting a sharing session with students and lecturers of international relations lecturers to see how this program has been going. Over the course of two intensive weeks, Dr. Gerben Moerman actively provided a range of in-depth training in research methodology, organized in a variety of formats, from well- attended public lectures, to workshops for lecturers, to special mentoring sessions designed to provide more personalized guidance. Each session was enthusiastically attended by both students and lecturers, all of whom showed a strong commitment to making the most of the opportunity

During the sharing session, Dr. Gerben expressed his appreciation to all lecturers and students for the warm welcome during the program. “The experience in Makassar was very memorable, especially the hospitality I received from the entire team of the Department of International Relations. I was also impressed by the enthusiasm of the students in exploring research methodology,” he said.

In addition, Prof. Dr. Darwis was also present to reflect on the importance of this program for the development of research methodology in the academic environment. Prof. Darwis praised Dr. Gerben’s innovative teaching style and ability to build critical thinking among students.

One of the students involved in the program, Muhammad Nasir, stated, “This program enriched our insights in research methodology, especially through Dr. Gerben’s interactive teaching method that encourages discussion, making us excited and enthusiastic in every activity.” Although the program went smoothly, some challenges remained during the activities, such as schedule clashes and limited number of participants in the public lectures. This will be an evaluation material for future programs. We hopes that the collaboration with the University of Amsterdam can continue.
